We take your privacy very seriously and we are committed to protecting your personal information.  We will collect, store, and manage your data in an unbiased and secure way in accordance with all applicable Data Protection laws. We will always be transparent about the personal data we collect, how we use it and for what purpose.

Magenta Research is committed to comply with Data Protection laws, regulations, and rules. This Policy adopts the fundamental principles of the UK’s and EU’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) as the minimum standard to which both us and our suppliers must adhere to.

Magenta Research Limited is registered as a Data Controller with the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO). The ICO regulates data protection and privacy matters in the UK. Their website has information for consumers.

WHAT DATA IS COLLECTED?

The personal information that we collect from you will vary, depending on the context of your interactions with us and the services we are providing. It may include, but is not limited to, the following information:

  • sensitive personal data e.g., racial, or ethnic origin, religious beliefs, or beliefs of a similar nature, your physical or mental health, or sexual life;

  • demographic data e.g., date of birth, gender, educational background, job title, professional memberships, ethnicity;

  • other personal data that we require to fulfil the quotas for market research projects e.g., whether you have children;

  • the time, date, location, and topic of any market research you participate in;

  • image and/or voice captured through photography, filming, videotaping and/or audio recording;

  • contact data such as email address, postal address, postcode, phone number;

  • payment data such as payment information or other financial details;

  • any other information which may be collected during our interactions with you.

HOW IS YOUR DATA IS COLLECTED?

We collect information about you through:

  • our research partners (recruiters and fieldwork agencies) who have invited you to participate in projects for Magenta;

  • forms you have completed e.g., signed consent forms or Non-Disclosure Agreements;

  • emails you send to us, or that we send to you;

  • our conversations with you, whether in person or on the phone;

  • messages you send to us directly through social media;

  • our website when you contact us or sign up for marketing communications;

  • other organisations where you have given consent for them to share information they have about you;

  • when you provide us with your personal information through surveys or online platforms.

HOW DO WE USE YOUR DATA?

We use your personal information to:

  • enable us to supply you with the services and information which you have requested;

  • analyse the information we collect so that we can administer, support, improve and develop our business and services we offer;

  • make sure you get any incentives you are promised;

  • make a contract with you;

  • provide market research services as per our contract with you;

  • reply to and deal with any questions, suggestions, issues, complaints or disputes you have contacted us about;

  • respond to any social media posts or other public comments you might make, whether they are directly to us or about us, our websites, services, or other activities;

  • protect you and our business from any potentially criminal behaviour, including fraud;

  • for recruitment purposes, if you have applied for a position with us including to contact you to discuss a role with us and to assess your suitability.

HOW DO WE PROTECT YOUR DATA?

We place great importance on the security of your personal information, and we always try to take appropriate precautions to protect it. We use a variety of security technologies and procedures to help us protect your personal data from unauthorised access, use or disclosure.

 Despite all our precautions however, no data transmission over the internet can be guaranteed as 100% secure.  So, whilst we strive to protect your personal information, we cannot guarantee the security of any information which you send to us, and you must understand that you do so at your own risk.

HOW LONG DO WE KEEP YOUR DATA FOR?

The length of time we hold your personal information varies depending upon the type of information and its use. The length of time the data is required will be communicated to you before you participate in any study.

WHERE DO WE STORE YOUR DATA?

We store and process your information within the European Economic Area (EEA). If we need to transfer your information outside of the EEA, we will only do so to countries which have been determined by the European Commission to have an adequate level of data protection. If this is not the case, we use a variety of legal mechanisms, including contracts, to help ensure your personal data is protected.

WHAT ARE THE LEGAL BASIS FOR PROCESSING YOUR DATA?

When we use your personal information, we are required to have a legal basis for doing so. There are various legal bases upon which we may rely on including:

  • consent: where you have given us consent to process your personal information for a specific purpose;

  • contract: where our use of your personal information is necessary for a contract, we have with you;

  • legitimate interests: where our use of your personal information is necessary for our legitimate interests or the legitimate interests of a third party.

WHAT ARE YOUR RIGHTS?

You have specific rights connected to provision of your personal data. These include:

  • the right to be informed about the collection and use of your personal data. We do this through this privacy policy;

  • the right to access your data. You can do this by contacting us via our website. If you require us to supply you with details of the personal information that we hold about you, then we will provide this information free of charge within 30 days of your request. If your request is manifestly unfounded or excessive, we will either charge a reasonable fee or provide an explanation for our refusal to respond;

  • the right to rectification. If you think that any data, we hold about you is incorrect you can request either verbally or in writing for it to be rectified;

  • the right to withdraw. You can change the consent which you have provided to us in relation to your personal information at any time;

  • the right to be forgotten. You can ask that we permanently erase all your personal information promptly and confirm to you that this has been done (there may be reasons why we may be unable to do this for example, if we have reason to believe that a request is malicious, technically impossible, involves disproportionate effort or could be harmful to others);

  • the right to object. You have the right to object to the processing of your personal data;

  • the right to restrict processing. You can request the restriction or suppression of your personal data under certain circumstances.

We hope that we can resolve any query or concern you raise about our use of your personal information. If we do not address your request or fail to provide you with a valid reason why we have been unable to do so, you can contact the Information Commissioner’s Office to make a complaint. WILL WE SHARE YOUR INFORMATION?

Our role is to recruit individuals to participate in market research on behalf of our clients. Therefore, we will share your information with other people and organisations from time to time. Participant information may be shared with:

  • third party companies who have commissioned the market research;

  • rewards companies to receive the incentives we may offer for completing market research with us;

  • our professional advisors including our lawyers and technology consultants when they need it to give us their professional advice;

  • the police, local authorities, Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs (HMRC), the courts and any other government authority if they ask us to do so (but only if it is lawful);

  • emergency services or local authorities where there is reason to believe a safeguarding issue exists.

Such third parties will be authorised to see and use your information but only to fulfil their contractual obligations to us and will not be permitted to use it for any other purpose. 

CHANGES TO YOUR POLICY

We may need to update our privacy policy as legal developments require us to.  If we do so, we will post notice of the change on our website and social media. Please revisit this policy each time you consider giving personal information.

If you continue to provide us with information or use our services after we’ve changed our policy, we’ll take it that you accept the changes.
